About the MCM Program

Mission Statement

To establish a CMIA Master Community Manager (MCM) designation for on-site large-scale managers. The designation is offered to CMIA members and is based on a combination of proven experience in on-site management and recognized professional education or related industry certifications.

Designation Requirements

Education

Applicants must have achieved one of the following:

  • PCAM, CPM, or CCM designation
  • OR petition for substitution with five years of on-site large-scale management experience

Other related state or professional designations may be submitted for partial or full substitution, subject to approval by the CMIA Designation Committee.

Experience

Applicants must:

  • Currently manage a CMIA-defined large-scale community
  • Have at least five years of experience managing a large-scale development within the past ten years

(Any experience used to substitute for education cannot also be counted toward the experience requirement.)

Application Content & Professional Endorsements

Each application must include:

  • Complete employment and education history
  • Two endorsements from professional community managers
  • Authorization for CMIA to verify employment, criminal, and credit histories

Workshop Attendance

Applicants must have attended:

  • At least two manager workshops, including
  • At least one CMIA workshop

Maintaining the MCM Designation

The designation remains valid as long as:

  • The individual maintains CMIA membership
  • The designation is not revoked due to criminal conviction related to an association or moral turpitude
  • The designee attends at least one CMIA Manager Workshop every three years

Designation Committee

A dedicated CMIA Designation Committee, consisting of a minimum of three CMIA members (plus area representatives as needed), reviews all applications, validates documentation, and recommends approval or denial to the Board of Directors. The Committee also evaluates substitution requests.
